Hello Brother and Sisters,
As all of you know by now many of our members across the Carolinas have been and will continue to be affected by Hurricane Florence's aftermath for some time.
With this said I have been contact with the IBT Disaster Relief Department, Deputy Director of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief and FEMA. As reports continue to come in and situations continue to change, obvious needs will arise.
First off we need keep all of those affected by this horrendous storm in our thoughts and prayers as they and their loved ones struggle with loss of life and property.
Secondly, please pass along the word to any of our fellow Teamsters that were affected by the storm that may have specific needs and could possibly benefits from receiving relief funds, (provided by the IBT Disaster Relief Fund ) to contact me personally and I can possibly put them on the fast track to receiving assistance.
Next, there continues to be a need for the movement of supplies to the affected areas via truck, both private and commercial. A few of our companies have already volunteered and offered their equipment to help with these efforts. With this said, as access to the these areas opens up there will be an additional need for drivers for this equipment. If you, as an employee of some of the companies would be willing to volunteer your time and effort to assist in this matter, please contact me @ (704) 363-6492.
Last but certainly not the least, I'd like to express a personal and on behalf of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; heartfelt THANK YOU to USF Holland drivers Frankie Billings and Charlie McCullough who volunteered their time this past Sunday to move two loads of ARC supplies from Charlotte, NC to New Bern, NC. It made for a long day but their sacrifice was and will continue to be greatly appreciated.
PLEASE PASS ALONG THIS INFORMATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
