Hello Brothers and Sisters,
As many of you may have already heard, the Local Unions across the nation were asked to participant in conference call today with IBT - UPS Negotiations Chairman Denis Taylor. This call was to explain and allow the Local Unions to cast their VOTE in favor of or in opposition to authorize the UPS Negotiations Committee the right to call for a STRIKE VOTE against UPS. It allows the IBT to send individuals ballots to the UPS membership to vote on whether or not authorize a STRIKE in the event one becomes necessary.
This is NOT calling for a STRIKE at this time. We are currently working under the UPS contract that does NOT expire until July 31, 2018. NO STRIKE can or WILL be called until after that date and then, once again only if necessary. This is simply a bargaining tool at this time, but it MUST be taken seriously!!!
You should be receiving a packet in the mail within the next week or so explaining how you will be able to VOTE.
For the record, Local Union # 71 fully supports this action and has VOTED in favor of authorizing the mailing of said ballots to our membership immediately.
I strongly recommend you pass the word to your fellow employees encouraging them to do the same either via email, social media or focus meetings prior to your start work.
Fortunately, we will be having our regular monthly Union meeting this coming Saturday (5/12/18), beginning at 8:30 for UPS, and will be discussing this issue in detail based upon the information available.
Fraternally Yours,
Joe Eason
